Vision and History of
“The Hill”
Aledo Christian Center’s vision includes
developing our 30 acre hilltop site. Located on the highest point in
Aledo, our acreage provides a strategic location to build for the
future. In the Old Testament God clearly chose the exact boundaries
for the nation of Israel. In the New
Testament we see the same principle in Acts 17:26, which says that the Holy
Sprit determines the exact places where [they] should live”
[Living Bible]. We believe that God has reserved this site for
Aledo Christian
Center
and we are excited about seeking Him the
fulfillment of His plans for this beautiful hill.
God’s ‘fingerprints’ are
clearly seen even in how we came to acquire this land. In the early
days of Aledo Christian Center (the late 1970s), the Lord impressed
Pastor Barton that this hill should be used for the Lord’s work. As
a result, Pastor Barton and the leaders of the Church prayed on the
hill, ‘reserving’ the land for His use in whatever way that He
chose. In Old Testament fashion, they erected a large mound of
stones at this spot as a memorial to the dedication of this land.
There was no expectation that the future owner would be
ACC . In fact, the
prospect of the land being owned by the young church was remote.
Years later, when a real estate developer purchased the land for a
new housing development, the prospect of any ministry owning the
land, much less Aledo
Christian Center
seemed even more unlikely. However, by
1986 the real estate development had failed to materialize and the
owner approached church about buying a portion of the site. As a
result, the church purchased 10 acres of the hillside. Several years
later we had the opportunity to acquire the remaining 25 acres of
the development.
Currently, the acreage is
being used in several ways. WallBuilders is located on a portion of
the land that was sold to David Barton, the son of Aledo Christian
Center Pastor Grady. WallBuilders is a ministry that specializes in
researching the writings of the Founding Fathers and the Founding
Father’s Biblical insights into government, education, economics,
family issues, etc. WallBuilders is having an impact in Texas and
across the nation by assisting legislators and educators to write
Biblically sound legislation and educational policy. The land also
currently has the athletic fields used by Aledo
Christian School. Aledo
Christian Center’s Easter sunrise
services are held near the stone memorial that serves as a reminder
of the day that this land was first dedicated to the Lord.
Our Master Plan for ‘the
Hill’ includes the new homes of
Aledo
Christian
Center
and
Aledo
Christian
School
, a prayer tower, new
athletic fields, etc. Completion of the new Aledo Christian
Center Multi-Purpose Center is scheduled for the summer of
2007. When completed, the facility will have approximately
9,600 SF of classroom, administrative, kitchen, and bathroom space
located on two levels. The adjoining gymnasium will have
competition high school basketball and volleyball courts.
Serving both Aledo Christian Center and Aledo Christian School, the
church will use the new MPC for regular church meetings and for
various social events. The school will move some of its
students into the eight new classrooms in the fall of
2007.
